On Tuesday night Lebanon scored seven runs in the first inning as they went on to beat North Montgomery. On Friday night in Linden, it took them eight innings to score two runs. They were wins either way, as the Tigers took down the Chargers 2 to 1 to complete the sweep of the season series.
Junior Michael Reese was the complete game winner. He gave up the one earned run on five hits and a walk. He sat eight North batters down on strikes. Kai Warren started for the home team and went seven. He also surrendered one earned on five hits and a like number of free passes, while striking out five. Seth Johnson pitched the 8th and was the hard luck loser. The one run he allowed was unearned as he did not permit a hit or a walk to the winners.
Reese led off the 8th for the Tigers with a ground ball to North’s now third baseman Warren. He promptly threw it over the first baseman’s head allowing Reese to reach second base. He then moved up to third on senior Ryan Nastav’s ground out to the right side. The next batter, junior Jarret French, then lofted a towering fly ball to center field. It looked like it had a chance to leave the park, but Charger centerfielder Kevin Ambriz tracked it down at the wall. The sacrifice scored Reese with the game winner. Junior Nick Nies also had a pair of hits for Lebanon.
The Tigers, behind Reese, held on in the bottom half for the win. The victory pushed LHS to 8 and 7 on the season and 5 and 3 in Sagamore Conference play. Next up they travel to Greenfield Central for a 6:00 game this evening before hosting conference rival Danville on Tuesday.
Recent rains have moved the Tri-West game to Friday the 10th at Memorial Park. First pitch is set for 6:00. The Sectional draw was Sunday evening and the Tigers drew Crawfordsville in game two. It will be played on Monday, May 22nd at approximately 7:30 at North Montgomery.
