Sophomore shortstop Garrett Harker took the first pitch of the game over the right field wall for the early lead but unfortunately the Cougars sent two over on their own later in the game and they held on to beat Lebanon 9 to 8 Monday night in Greenfield. Harker would triple in his next at bat and ended up driving in two and scoring three times to go along with his two hits. Junior Michael Reese also had a double and a single, also driving in two and he scored once.
Senior Jonathan Moore started for the Tigers and went three and a third, allowing four earned runs on six hits, a pair of walks, and a hit batter. He surrendered the two solo shots to Central’s Atwood brothers, Gavin and Nick. Junior Nick Nies was the third of four Tiger pitchers on the day and ended up taking the loss. In his one inning of work he gave up three runs, only one earned, on one hit and a walk.
Down 9 to 5 entering the 7th, the Tigers made things interesting by scoring three runs but could not push the tying run across. Junior Jarret French knocked in two of the runs with a sharp single to center.
The loss evens the Tigers’ record at 8 and 8 on the season. They return home this evening to take on conference foe Danville at 6:00 in Memorial Park. To clarify on their Sectional draw, Lebanon will face Crawfordsville in game 2 at 11:00 on May 27th at North Montgomery. If they win, they would advance to the Sectional final later that night.
