Senior Ryan Nastav had a pair of singles and drove in two runs on Monday as Lebanon beat Crawfordsville 3 to 0 on Monday to advance to the Sectional final later that evening. Sophomore Garrett Harker was the complete game winner, shutting out the Athenians on three hits, a walk, and a hit batter. He sat down ten on strikes.
The Tigers struck first in the bottom of the 2nd when Nastav walked to lead off the inning. Logan Elsbury, running for Nastav, then advanced to 3rd on a pair of wild pitches by Crawfordsville starter Cam Saunders. Senior Jonathan Moore then executed the safety squeeze to perfection, driving in Elsbury for the lead the Tigers would never relinquish.
Lebanon added two insurance runs in the 6th. Junior Nick Nies led off with a walk and promptly stole 2nd. The next batter, junior Michael Reese was then intentionally walked to bring up fellow junior Jarret French. He would reach on a fielder’s choice that erased Reese at 2nd. That brought up Nastav with one out to face new Athenian pitcher Austin Warren. French would steal 2nd on Warren’s first pitch, forcing Crawfordsville to bring their infield in. Nastav then hit a hard ground ball off the shortstop’s glove plating both runners and providing a welcome cushion going into Crawfordsville’s last at-bat.
Harker set down the side in order and victory was complete. Saunders took the loss, giving up the three earned runs on just one hit but he did walk four and had three wild pitches. The win left the Tigers at 12 and 13 on the year as they waited to take on the Frankfort for the championship.
