LHS SCORES FOUR IN 6TH TO BEAT ROCHESTER
On Saturday afternoon at Twin Lakes High School the Tigers were feeling the effects of their soggy Senior Night loss to Tri-West, as they took on the Rochester Zebras in the first game of a modified round robin double header. They slept walked through the first five innings without a hit and were down by two runs when Sophomore Drew Cosgray lead off the 6th with a single to left on the field where his father, Coach Rick Cosgray, had starred in high school. After moving to 2nd on a wild pitch, Cosgray was lifted for pinch runner Matthew Coddington. Fellow freshman Garrett Harker then lined a double over the center fielder’s head to score Coddington. After stealing 3rd, Harker came home on Senior Tyler Welborn’s single to tie the game. Sophomore Michael Reese then singled with Welborn moving to 3rd. After Reese advanced on a wild pitch, Junior Ryan Nastav lined a single to center that plated both runners to provide the eventual margin.
Junior Jared Fields made the most of his first start of the season, as he went 6 innings for the win. He gave up the two Zebra runs (neither earned) on 6 hits and 5 walks. He struck out seven. Senior Haydn Parker came on in the 7th with runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs. He got the first batter to pop out and then after an error loaded the bases, he got a strikeout and another pop out to slam the door for the save.
The win left the Tigers at 11 and 14 on the season with one regular season game left before Sectional play begins on the 23rd. They will face Frankfort at Crawfordsville High School at 6:00.
