The Lebanon Tigers Congratulate Lebanon 1984 Graduate Ed Schilling for being inducted into the 64th Class of The Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame. Outstanding honor for a true Tiger Legend! Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame announced 64th Men’s Induction Class (New Castle) - Rooted in a passion that spans generations, the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame remains dedicated to Honoring, Preserving and Promoting the Heritage of Indiana High School Basketball. That commitment continues as the Hall’s Board of Directors announces its 64th induction class, to be celebrated in ceremonies on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. Eighteen men are in the class, including 1987 Indiana co-Mr. Basketball Jay Edwards of Marion, and seven other players (John Barnhill of Evansville Lincoln, Wallace Bryant of Gary Emerson, Jaraan Cornell of South Bend Clay, Tom Cutter of Lafayette Central Catholic, Richard Ellis of Indianapolis Crispus Attucks, Rick Fox of Warsaw and Ron Horn of Mississinewa).The class also includes four men who were successful as players and coaches (Brandon Brantley of Andrean, Leo Costello of Lynnville, Harry Larrabee of Shelbyville and Ed Schilling of Lebanon), five coaches (Dick Barr of Muncie Central, Jerry Bomholt of Elwood, Cliff Hawkins of Cascade, Marty Johnson of Highland and Robert “Bob” Punter of DeMotte) and one broadcaster – Howard Kellman of Indianapolis – as the Indiana Pacers/Indiana Fever Silver Medal winner. The Silver Medal is presented to a person who contributed to Indiana high school basketball in a role other than as a player or coach. Barnhill, Barr, Cornell, Costello, Ellis and Horn are posthumous inductees. Costello, a 1923 high school graduate, is the winner of the hall’s Centennial Award, which inducts a man who graduated high school from 100 years ago or more. The 18 inductees as well as the 2026 men’s Silver Anniversary Team members and the 2026 men’s Center Circle Officials Award honorees will be honored at the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame’s 64th Men’s Awards Banquet on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. A mid-day reception, free and open to the public, will be held earlier on March 18 at the Hall of Fame Museum in New Castle. The evening banquet will take place at Primo Banquet Hall, 2615 National Ave., Indianapolis, IN 46227. Ed Schilling, a 1984 graduate of Lebanon High School and current head men’s basketball coach at Pepperdine University, is an accomplished player and coach. As a high school player, the 6-foot-2 guard helped his teams to three sectional and three regional titles. That included averages of 9.5 points, 4.7 rebounds and a state-leading 8.0 assists as a senior for a 22-4 team coached by Jim Rosenstihl. Schilling also helped a Basil Mawbey-coached Connersville team to a 21-4 record as a sophomore, then moved to Lebanon and tallied 8.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and 6.7 assists as a junior for a 20-5 squad. He was 1984 AP high honorable mention All-State, 1984 UPI honorable mention All-State and played in the 1984 Thoroughbred Classic, a national all-star game in Lexington, Ky. Schilling matriculated to Miami University, where he set school records for assists in a career (629) and assists in a game (17 vs. Kent State on Feb. 4, 1987). He also totaled 474 points, 332 rebounds and is 10th in MU history with 148 steals in 104 games over four seasons for teams that went 66-51, won the 1986 Mid-American Conference regular-season title and played in two NCAA Tournaments. In addition, he stands second and third on the MU list for season assists (214 in 1984-85 and 203 in 1986-87) and also had four additional games with 12 or more assists. He received the 1985 MU Arthur and Olga Adkins Award as program’s newcomer of the year, was a two-year team captain and twice was recognized as Academic All-MAC and CoSIDA Academic All-District V. Schilling also has achieved success as a coach at the high school, college and NBA levels. He has a 165-96 record in 11 seasons as a high school varsity coach with five sectionals, three regionals, three semi-states and two Class 2A state championships. That includes a 31-33 mark from 1988-91 at Western Boone, a 47-45 slate from 1991-95 at Logansport and an 87-18 ledger from 2009-13 at Park Tudor, where his teams won 2A state titles in 2011 and 2012 as well as the 2013 Marion County Tournament. He currently is in his second season at Pepperdine and including a 75-93 mark from 1997-2003 at Wright State, entered the 2025-26 season with an 88-105 record as a college head coach. He also was a college assistant for a total of 13 seasons at Massachusetts, Memphis, UCLA, Indiana and Grand Canyon for teams that went 304-134 and made eight NCAA Tournament appearances, including four Sweet 16 berths and the 1996 Final Four. He also assisted with the NBA New Jersey Nets in 1996-97. In a remarkable career climb, Schilling went from being a high school coach (Logansport) to college assistant (Massachusetts) to NBA assistant (Nets) in a 310-day span in 1995 and 1996. Schilling also coached the U.S. All-Stars in the 1991 Capital Classic in Washington, D.C., served as a coach and director for the Adidas Nations program from 2005-13 and worked for Strength To Strength Training to prepare top college prospects for NBA readiness from 2005-13. He also has produced seven basketball workout DVDs and co-authored two books, “Guard Play” with Steve Alford and “Five Star Basketball” with Howard Garfinkel. He is the son of Ed Schilling, a former Butler University star and coach at Marian College and IUPUI, and grandson of Walter Cross, the 1919 IHSAA Gimbel Award winner and 1971 Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame inductee.
