Girls Junior Varsity Soccer, Girls Varsity Soccer · Lady Tigers Varsity Soccer finishes regular season with Victory over Covenant Christian 3-1.

The LHS Girls Soccer team traveled to Covenant Christian in the final regular season game in varsity action only Saturday morning. The Lady Tigers were able to come away victorious with a 3-1 win against the Lady Warriors on their Senior Day.

The Lady Tigers went into halftime up 2-0 with both goals coming from junior Kirstin Byrd which brought her impressive regular season scoring tally to 22 goals. The first goal was assisted by sophmore MF Madison Maher who earned her 7th assist of the season.

The second goal came from a well-placed through ball from the foot of junior captain, Lilly Haines which accounted for her 12th assist of the season.

Shortly into the second half, the Lady Tigers added to the scoring with a shot from Lilly Haines that junior MF, Brianna Martinez confidently followed up the initial GK save and struck into the back of the net with her left foot.

After going up 3-0, the Lady Warriors did responded with an accurately struck shot that hit side netting just inside the 18 from talented Lady Warriors MF number 7.

The Lady Tigers would not concede any more goals as the entire team defended with determination and intelligence to see out the 3-1 away win.

Senior GK Alyssa Downs registered 13 saves on the day. The Lady Tigers backline defended well despite the absence of senior captain Lizzie Hart. Freshman Jessica Lehmkuhler provided good varsity outside back cover while junior Sara Hammerle filled in admirably in the senior captain’s absence.

Senior Sarah Perez, junior Sam Malagon and sophomore Madison Maher performed impressively the entire match, limiting the Lady Warriors threats by way of their leading goal scorer and talented MF.

The victory pushed the Lady Tigers to a varsity record of 11-4-1 through the regular season.

The Lady Tigers finished the season by conceding only 8 goals for an impressive 0.5 goals against average throughout the entire regular season and amassed a +36 goal differential.


Next up for the Lady Tigers is Sectional play when they travel to Crawfordsville to play the host Athenians next Thursday, October 5th. Kickoff is scheduled to begin at approximately 7:00 pm.
