Girls Junior Varsity Soccer, Girls Varsity Soccer · Lady Tigers Soccer defeats North Montgomery 3-0.

The LHS Girls Soccer team travelled to North Montgomery in varsity action only. In the final regular season conference match, the Lady Tigers were able to come away with a 3-0 victory. All three goals however came in the second half as the Lady Chargers combined with a sluggish first half by the Lady Tigers made for a frustrating first 40 minutes.  With the score level 0-0 at half, the Lady Tigers made a few tactical changes at half to try and get the opening goal.  As the second half began, the Lady Tigers were sharper in their attacking half and created more chances. However it looked as if the Lady Tigers may conceded the first goal of the match as the Lady Chargers struck their near post.  Nevertheless, the Lady Tigers opened the scoring with junior Kirstin Byrd earning her first and lone goal of the match. Assisting for the Lady Tigers opening goal was junior captain Lizzie Hart from her center back position with a well-placed and paced ball that Byrd was able to possess and then outrace the Lady Chargers backs and open the scoring. Byrd’s goal marked her 20th goal of her impressive junior season.

After the opening goal, the Lady Tigers were rarely threatened and were able to get two additional goals from junior captain Lilly Haines. Both goals were assisted by junior Kirstin Byrd. Haines earned her brace in the waning moments of the 2nd half with a powerful strike from inside the right side of the 18 that hit the underside of the crossbar and crossed the goal line. The victory put the Lady Tigers at 5-2 in conference but more impressively finished a remarkable stint of defensive work by only conceding 1 goal in conference play the entire season! The clean sheet also marked the 11th clean sheet of the season through 15 games!  Coach Hyatt cannot speak highly enough of the Lady Tigers’ defensive work to this point of the season. Senior Tori Bennett, captain Lizzie Hart, junior Sara Hammerle, senior Amber Brummett, junior Sam Malagon and  freshman Jessica Lehmkuhler all made contributions to preserve the clean sheet. The regular season varsity record stands at 10 wins, 4 losses and 1 draw with 7 goals conceded through 15 games.
