The LHS Girls Soccer team hosted the Pike Lady Red Devils on Thursday evening in non-conference JV and varsity play. In the opening JV match, the Lady Tigers cruised to a comfortable 5-0 win with junior forward Kelsey Stogsdill compiling an impressive 4 goals in the opening match. In varsity play, the Lady Tigers would fall in controversial fashion 1-0 in a second game in as many nights. Neither team created many clear-cut chances in the first half and at halftime the score was 0-0.
In the second half, the Lady Tigers would create many more chances but it was the Lady Red Devils would get the opening goal from a long range free kick that evaded the outstretched hands of senior GK Alyssa Downs. The Lady Tigers would attempt to respond and create several scoring opportunities late. Prior to the final whistle, many thought the Lady Tigers equalized as the ball appeared to cross the goal line completely twice but the center official called off the goal for reasons still unclear. While a difficult defeat, Coach Hyatt would like to credit among several players, junior Laura Lemen who provided several accurate services into the box throughout the match.
Up next for the Lady Tigers, they will travel to Danville in conference play this evening. Varsity will kickoff at 5:30 pm with JV to follow for a half at 7:00 pm.
