The LHS Girls Soccer team travelled to county rivals, Western Boone in conference play in both varsity and JV action. Both squads came away victorious in the away trip with varsity winning 3-0 and JV 4-0. The Lady Tigers would be tested at the varsity level however as the game came to halftime tied 0-0 with the Lady Tigers having more opportunities in front of goal but unable to get the opening goal until the 2nd half.
It was roughly 12 minutes into the 2nd half when the Lady Tigers opened the game’s scoring with a quick up, back and through that sprang junior Kirstin Byrd racing towards goal and placed the ball away from the Lady Stars’ GK. Senior center back Tori Bennett played Byrd in and registered her first assist of her season. The Lady Tigers would double their lead compliments again of junior Kirstin Byrd who finished off a cool and composed goal after faking out the Lady Stars’ GK and calmly placing the ball in the open net. Junior captain Lilly Haines sprang Byrd free with a penetrating ball that created the 1v1 opportunity with Byrd and the Lady Stars’ GK. The Lady Tigers would finish the scoring from a short corner that junior captain Lilly Haines was able to place past the Lady Stars GK near post on the ground from right inside the 18 and ultimately sealing the game at 3-0. Coach Hyatt would like to credit the entire back line along with senior GK Alyssa Downs, Sam Malagon, Madison Maher, Taylor Metzger with determined defending the entire match. The Lady Tigers were able to preserve the clean sheet despite at times overly aggressive play on the part of the county rivals. The Lady Tigers were able to maintain their composure away from home.
Next up the Lady Tigers JV team only will travel to McCutcheon tomorrow with kickoff at 6 pm.
The Lady Tigers will then host West Lafayette in JV and varsity action this Thursday with JV beginning at 5:15 pm and Varsity following at 6:45 pm.
