Girls Junior Varsity Soccer, Girls Varsity Soccer · Lady Tigers Soccer Defeats Southmont 4-1


The Lady Tigers traveled to South Montgomery last night in varsity action and conference play. The Lady Tigers began the night sharply by scoring within the first two minutes of the game compliments of junior Kirstin Byrd composed finishing. Byrd collected a stray ball in the attacking third and went on to fakeout the South Mont. GK to calmly pass the ball into the open net. The Lady Tigers would go onto to win the match 4-1 by adding three additional goals in the second half.

 

The Lady Mounties would tighten the game before half by equalizing with their pacey forward, #19 Macy Zachary. The Lady Tigers had matters briefly compounded with senior starting GK needing a brief substitute by emergency GK, junior Alyna Sell. Sell did collect one save officially in the senior GK’s absence but after receiving clearance from the Mounties’ trainer, Downs was able to return to play and finish out the game uninjured.

 

The Lady Tigers defending proved resilient again with few opportunities afforded to the Lady Mounties in the 2nd half. Two GK saves were registered for the Lady Tigers’ in the 2nd half. Coach Hyatt would like to credit junior MF Sam Malagon with timely tackling and winning nearly every aerial duel she encountered.

 

Senior Captain Lizzie Hart opened up the scoring in the second half by scoring off a well struck free kick that beat the Lady Mounties’ GK on her near post. Freshman Summer Stogsdill would later record her first official varsity goal of her promising young career after a nice takeover on the edge of the Mounties’ 18 yard box that Stogsdill struck to beat the Mounties’ GK.

 

Junior Kirstin Byrd would continue her strong form by finishing out the game with another goal to register her third consecutive brace. Byrd was able to use some individual brilliance and pace to beat the Mounty center back pairing and place the ball out of the Lady Mounties’ GK to add to her impressive run of play.

 

The Lady Tigers host Park Tudor on Monday, Aug. 28th at 7 pm in varsity action only.
