JOHNSON SHUTS DOWN WARRIORS TO STOP TIGERS’ SKID
Just days after an outstanding game behind the plate, senior Grant Johnson took the mound against Danville and shut them out in a complete game win, 2 to 0 Thursday night on the road. Fellow senior Zach Dafoe stepped up at the plate and in the field. He had two hits and a steal as well as several stellar plays at short. Freshman DH Michael Reese had the biggest hit of the night, with his two-out single that drove in senior left fielder Cooper Farris with the second run. The win snapped a seven-game losing streak for Lebanon.
In going the distance, Johnson allowed three hits and a pair of walks while striking out five. He worked out of a jam in the 5th. With runners on second and third after an error, a single, and a wild pitch, he induced a ground ball to senior third baseman David Nastav who gunned down the runner at the plate for the second out. Then on what should have been the third out, a dropped third strike off of another wild pitch loaded the bases. Johnson wiggled off the hook when the he got the next batter to ground out to Dafoe unassisted at second.
Warrior senior Reece Jensen was the hard luck loser. He also went the distance, giving up the two runs, only one earned, on five hits, a pair of walks, and a hit batsman. The Tigers’ first run almost didn’t happen as it came off of a Danville error, with courtesy runner Nick Dafoe stumbling on the wet turf. He ended up crawling across the plate.
The win moves Lebanon to four and ten on the season, three and eight in conference. They will travel to Charlestown on Saturday for two games. The first game is at 11:00. With a win, they would advance to the championship game at approximately 4:00. A loss in the first game would have them playing in the consolation game at approximately 1:30.
