JOHNSON SETS DEFENSIVE MARK AS TIGERS LOSE TO CHARGERS
In a season when the Tiger defense has been less than stellar, Senior catcher Grant Johnson set an LHS catching record Monday night when he assisted on all three outs in North Montgomeryâs half of the 5th inning. The first out came when he picked a Charger runner off of first base. Next he gunned down a runner attempting to steal second base. And for the third out he threw to first on a dropped third strike off of a wild pitch. Unfortunately this was the lone Lebanon highlight, as the Tigers fell to the Chargers 10 to 0 in six innings in Linden.
North Senior Mitch Merica went five innings and was the winner, allowing only 3 hits and a walk. He fanned six. Tyler Swick pitched the final inning and gave up a hit and struck out one. Junior Tyler Welborn started for Lebanon and took the loss. He went three and a third innings, allowing six runs, all earned , on six hits, five walks, and a pair of wild pitches. Haydn Parker, Michael Reese, and Ben Johnson mopped up.
Charger freshman second baseman Kai Warren served as their offensive catalyst from the nine hole. He went three for three on the night, scoring twice and driving in one. Four other North hitters had two knocks apiece.
The loss drops the Tigers to three and nine on the season and two and seven in conference. Next up this week they will face the Danville Warriors for a conference home and away series.
