DOWELL NO-HITS TIGERS IN FIVE INNINGS
Crawfordsville senior Chase Dowell tossed a 5-inning no-hitter on Thursday evening at Memorial Park, as the Athenians beat Lebanon 11 to 0. It started out bad for the Tigers in the 1st when the visitors put up four runs, three earned, on LHS starter Grant Johnson. The inning was made worse by a bad hop single that hit junior third baseman Haydn Parker in the face. He left the game but was able to return to the dugout shortly thereafter to lend his vocal support to the team.
Dowell did walk three in the no-no. Grant ended up going three innings, surrendering seven runs, six earned, on 8 hits and 4 walks. He struck out two. Freshman Michael Reese made his varsity debut on the mound, as he came on in relief to start the 4th. He went the two innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on 2 hits, 2 walks, and a hit batter. He fanned two also.
Athenian senior Trent Johnson had a huge night at the plate. He was four for four with a triple. He scored three times and drove in two. The loss drops the Tiger to 3 and 7 on the year, 2 and 5 in conference. They next face Plainfield on Friday at 6:00 in Memorial Park.
