The LHS girls soccer teams travelled to West Lafayette to visit the Red Devils in both JV and varsity contests. In the first match, the LHS girls JV team lost 1-0 in a competitive and tight match. The JV team were forced to play down a player for a good majority of the match due to injury and player participation regulations. The JV team played strongly despite playing a player down and on the road against a formidable opponent.
The varsity team fell 4-2 to the Red Devils in a hard fought and physical contest. The Red Devils took the lead about half way through the first half with Madison Maher scoring an equalizer assisted by Kirstin Byrd.
The Lady Tigers went into half tied 1-1. The Red Devils scored first in the second half and then again to go up 3-1 before the Tigers responded with a goal of their own with a perfectly slotted shot to the far left post from the 18 by Lily Haines. Lizzie Hart played Haines into space creating the opportunity for the well placed shot passed the GK in the opposite lower ninety.
The Red Devils finished the scoring with a controversial no call where it appeared the Red Devils player ran into the Tigers GK when she was in possession of the ball with her hands that consequently lead to a goal.
Coach Hyatt thought Madison Maher was superb and well deserving of her second goal of the season. Tori Bennett was fantastic the entire night as a center back playing against a Red Devils attack with lots of pace. Goalkeeper Erin Huse recorded 7 saves and once again proved strong off her line.
The Lady Tigers will look to bounce back tomorrow in a varsity match at home versus South Mont. beginning at 6:30 pm.
