CHARGERS SCORE LATE TO EDGE TIGERS IN SECTIONAL PLAY
North Montgomery got their big bat to the dish at the right time and he delivered a three-run shot that would prove to be the game winner for the Chargers; in first round Sectional play Wednesday evening on their home field. In the bottom of the 6th, Baylee Adams took the first pitch he saw from LHS starter Jackson Bland and put it over the left field fence for the first and deciding runs of the game. The Tigers would challenge in the 7th but could only put one across, as North took the game 3 to 1 to advance.
Bland had worked out of trouble the whole game but could not work his magic in the 6th. He went the six innings giving up the three earned on 6 hits, 5 walks, and a hit batter. He struck out 5. For the Chargers, Jordan Lewis was the complete game winner. He allowed the one earned on 9 hits, a walk, and one hit batsman.
Senior centerfielder Benji Hudson lead the Tigers at the plate. He drove in their lone run with one of his two singles. Hudson was one of the great success stories of the year. After two years away from the game, he started the season as the bullpen catcher but by mid-season he had worked his way to starting center fielder and leadoff man. Juniors Zach Dafoe, who scored the only run, and Grant Johnson also had two hits.
The Tigers were blessed with a solid core of five seniors whose leadership and production will be hard to replace. At present, three will be playing next year at the next level. Bland has signed to play at Anderson University, shortstop Caleb Myers will attend and play at Marian University, and pitcher Reid Schaller, injured most of the season, is headed to Vanderbilt. Catcher Bryce Shearer and Hudson round out the group, who gave their heart and soul to the team this year and in the past.
