SENIORS SHINE ON RAINY SENIOR NIGHT
Tiger senior Jackson Bland tossed a complete-game no-hitter against the Tri-West Bruins in soggy Memorial Park on Senior Night. The final score was 8 to 0, as Bland struck out twelve. He was just two walks and a hit batter away from a perfect game. Senior slugger Caleb Myers had a big game also, hitting a 2-run homer to leftfield in the 5th inning. Fellow senior and âMr. LHSâ Bryce Shearer was behind the plate and was instrumental in the no-no. He also gunned down a Bruin base runner on a steal attempt in the 1st.
LHS jumped out with three runs in their half of the 1st. With two outs, Myers reached on an error and moved to 2nd when Shearer was plunked. Bland got it done at the plate as well, driving Myers in with a ground ball single to left. Shearer and Bland took 3rd and 2nd on the throw to the plate. Junior third baseman Zach Dafoe then plated Shearer with an infield single. Kobe Burtron, running for Bland, scored the third run on a double steal.
The Tigers put two more on the board in the 5th, again with two outs. Junior Evan Stambaugh lined a single and then came home on Myersâ dinger. They finished their scoring in the 6th. Sophomore DH Hayden Parker doubled home Burtron, running again for Bland who had walked, to make it 6 to 0. The other two runs of the inning scored courtesy of Tri-West errors.
The win moves LHS to 10 and 11 on the season and they finish conference play at 8 and 6. They play their final regular season game at Brebeuf on Saturday before squaring off against North Montgomery in Sectional play. That game is Wednesday the 24th at 5:00 at North Montgomery.
