The boys and girls cross teams traveled to Southmont last night to compete in the Sagamore Conference Meet. The weather cooperated and the course was in great condition as always setting the scene for a fine meet.
The varsity girls ran very well, leap – frogging three teams that had beaten them earlier in the season to secure a third place finish in the conference. Top scorers included three second team all conference finishers of Megan Hammerle – 12, Katelyn Johns – 16 and Eliza Lennox 19th, Macy Cooper finished 21 despite illness and Miranda Dafoe just behind at 22. Allie O’Rourke turned in a fine effort returning from injury to provide the tie breaking points to place the team in third over Danville. This was an event where the girls finished above seeding and are to be commended.
On the boys side, the varsity times were better and there was good effort. However, the youth and inexperience of the Tigers couldn’t overcome a really talented and deep conference. The boys finished 8th in the meet with the scorers being Tommy Veerkamp 26, Nate Wire 33, Evan Cortez 40, Conner Belcher 44, and Kory Ohlemacher 46. The boys continue to build a nucleus that can compete in the further they put in the work.
In the jv meet, Luke Betts and Cory Edwards dropped time and showed improvement. The girls jv squad also ran well and showed great effort. The team won the jv race with the scorers of Sarah Curts 3, Ashley Syferd 4, Grace Smith 5, Shannon Jones 8 and Morgan Rowe 9th. Great effort.
Both teams now begin preparation for Cross Country Sectionals on October 15th at Noblesville.
